How do I choose a different voice for Windows Narrator?

Windows Narrator screen reader has seven different voices to choose from. To choose one that suits your personal preference, select the Start button - Settings - Ease of Access - Narrator.

Alternatively, you can utilise keyboard shortcut keys to access the Ease of Access centre (Windows Key and U), tab once and arrow down six times to Narrator and press enter. You should then press the tab key to get into the main window.

Continue to press the tab key to navigate to the personalise Narrator’s voice section. The first option in this area will allow you to choose a voice. The English Microsoft George voice is the default. You can change the voice by using the up and down arrow keys. There are both male and female voices to choose from. You can select a voice that you can understand best by choosing the accent. United Kingdom and United States voices are preinstalled.

If the built-in voices are not suitable, you can download and install additional voices. You can do this by pressing the tab key until you land on the 'Add more voices' link and press 'Enter'. In the following window, press the tab key to navigate to the 'Add voices' button and press 'Enter'. You will need to specify a language for the voice you wish to add by typing into a text field and pressing 'Enter'. A list of voices will then be displayed. Press 'Enter' on a voice, press tab once and activate the Add button - this will download the voice. It will then be available in your voices selection list.
