Do I have to stop working now that I've lost my sight?

No, you shouldn't have to stop working - but you will need to speak to your employer about the changes to your sight, so that they can support you to make any reasonable adjustments that you require to stay working.

Further information can be found on RNIB's Employment and Equality and Staying in work web pages.

In England, Scotland and Wales you are covered by the Equality Act. In Northern Ireland this is the Disability Discrimination Act. The Equality Act says that employers have to make reasonable adjustments for people with a disability, such as sight loss. This might include providing equipment or software, altering lighting levels or changing your job description to reassign some duties.

Access to Work (ATW) is a scheme run by Jobcentre Plus that provides advice and practical support to disabled people to enable them to work alongside their colleagues despite their disabilities. Further information can be found on RNIB's Access to Work scheme web page.
