What adult support can be provided in exams?
The roles adults are able to play in supporting students with VI within exams and tests are very specific and must follow guidelines published by the relevant testing body. The Joint Council for Qualifications or Standard Testing Agency produce updated guidance annually. The Scottish Qualifications Authority produces guidance relating to exams in Scotland.
The possible roles are: readers, scribes, prompters and practical assistants.
Depending on the tests/exams these roles may need to be applied for and may also require supporting evidence.
Further information about exam arrangements and access for pupils with vision impairment can be found on RNIB's Access to exams and test webpages.
