Can I defer my Jury Service or be excused if I have sight loss?

You must show 'Good Reason' if you are to defer or be excused. Examples include:

having an operation
sitting an exam
employer will not give you time off work
have a holiday booked
just become a new parent

If you are not disqualified from being on a jury, you must show 'Good Reason' if you are to defer or be excused.If you need to defer or be excused, you should contact the jury summoning officer at the address on the jury summons letter. You must give full reasons for the deferral or excusal and you must state what other days during the next twelve months that you will be able to attend. You may be asked for evidence to verify your circumstances.

Jury service can only be deferred once. Applications to be excused from jury services are only considered in exceptional circumstances. You also have the right to be excused from jury service if you have previously served or attended to serve on a jury in the previous 2 years.
