What formats are audio books available in?
Audio books, newspapers and magazines are available to listen to on CD, USB stick and digital formats like MP3.
CD, DAISY and USB stick
You can listen to CDs and USB sticks on a stereo, music system or other device that has a CD player or USB port.
DAISY CDs can be played on specialist players.You can also play them on any MP3 CD player, but you won't be able to use the bookmark feature or have as much control navigating the book. However MP3 CD players are much more affordable than DAISY players.
Digital
You can download and listen to digital audio books, magazines and newspapers on your computer, MP3 player such as an iPod, tablet such as an iPad or Galaxy Tab or mobile phone. You can listen to eBooks using an eBook reader such as a Kindle with text-to-speech.
You can also try out audio samples through RNIB's Talking Books service and the Audible and LibriVox websites.
