What is a proof of benefit letter?
A proof of benefit letter is an official document that confirms you receive a particular benefit or State Pension. You may be asked to provide this as evidence of your benefit entitlement when applying for discounts, concessions, grants or other support, or when an organisation needs confirmation of the benefits you receive.
You can get a proof of benefit letter online if you are currently getting:
- Attendance Allowance
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for adults
- Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) - all types
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) - all types
- Pension Credit
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- State Pension
To request a proof of benefit letter online, visit GOV.uk
You can get proof of your benefits or State Pension:
- Digitally - By downloading the file to your device
- By post - This can take up to one week to arrive
To get proof of Universal Credit, sign in to your Universal Credit account.
If you cannot apply online or need further information, you will need to contact the benefit team direclty if you:
- need a letter to prove you’re getting a different benefit
- need a letter sent to you in Welsh, or in an alternative format such as braille
- have recently changed address and not updated the address on your benefit record
- live outside Great Britain or Northern Ireland.
