How do I send items using the Articles for the Blind scheme?

To send items under the scheme, simply write 'Articles for the Blind' on the front of the envelope or package. You must also write on a return address. The following size and weight limits apply:

Size limits:

  • rectangular parcels: maximum dimensions: 610mm x 460mm x 460mm
  • cylindrical parcels: the length must not exceed 900mm and the length added to twice the diameter of the packet must not be more than 1040mm in total.

Weight limits:

  • The maximum weight limit of any parcel is 7kg.

If you are unable to get to a postbox or Post Office to post your Articles for the Blind items, you can arrange a free collection from home by calling Royal Mail Business Customer Services line 03457 950 950, select option 1 (Business and Registered Charities), select option 7 - you can then arrange a collection with the operator.

If you call before 12 noon the collection can be made the same day.

Compensation for lost, damaged or delayed post

Items sent using the Articles for the Blind service are eligible for compensation if they are lost, damaged or delayed.

Low value items or no evidence of posting, there will be compensation for loss, damage and delay of a minimum of 6 first class stamps at the first weight step.

High value items with evidence of posting with Royal Mail (such as a certificate of posting) and evidence of value (such as an invoice or receipt), there will be compensation for loss or damage up to the value of the item, or £46, whichever is the lowest.

To check you are eligible and to receive your compensation you must complete a Claim form.
