What help is there for travelling on trains?

If you're travelling by train you can book assistance for your journey directly through your train operator(s) you can find a list of train companies and contact details on the National Rail Travel Assistance page. You need make arrangements at least 24 hours in advance of your journey. You can also organise assistance through the National Rail's Travel Assistance Team:

  • 0800 022 3720
  • online form
  • open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

Don't worry if your journey involves using trains by different companies, you only need to contact one train company and they will organise assistance for your whole journey.

If you haven't been able to book your assistance in advance, you can still ask for assistance at ticket offices or turnstiles.

If you live in Wales or Devon you can also apply for an Orange wallet, see What are travel wallets?

Further information on train travel assistance and getting around safely if you have sight loss can be found on RNIB's Rail Travel web page.
