How do I talk to my child about their vision impairment?

One of the most difficult parts of finding out your child has a vision impairment (VI) is knowing how to talk to them about it. This can be even more of a challenge if it's progressive and means their vision will get worse over time. Research shows that young people have different levels of understanding of their own eye condition, would often like to know more than they do, and have had varying levels of opportunity to talk to other people to find out more.

RNIB have produced a guide which offers advice on how to approach the subject, taking into account the individual differences between each child, their parents, personal circumstances and experiences of vision impairment.

Further information including the guide can be found on RNIB's resources for parents web pages.
