What is sight loss registration?
“Registration” is carried out by your local council and simply means being on your local social service’s register of people who are either severely sight impaired (blind) or sight impaired (partially sighted). It's voluntary, completely confidential and your details won’t be shared.
You can only be registered once you have attended an eye clinic appointment and obtained a CVI (certification of vision impairment). The term registration is often used as shorthand to cover the whole process but there are two distinct and separate stages.
Stage 1 - Certification
Stage 2 - Registration
For information certification see What is a certificate of vision impairment (CVI)?, What happens during the eye clinic assessment for a certification of vision impairment (CVI)? and What is the eye sight criteria for a certificate of vision impairment CVI?
For information on how to get registered once you have a CVI see How do I register as sight impaired (partially sighted) or severely sight impaired (blind)?
