I've just been diagnosed with age related macular degeneration (AMD), what happens next?
This depends on the type of AMD you have been diagnosed with:
- If you have been told you have 'wet' AMD, you should be referred to your local eye clinic for treatment within 2 weeks.
- If you have been told you have 'dry' AMD, you may not be referred to the hospital unless the diagnosis requires confirmation or the optometrist thinks the hospital has a low vision service.
Whatever type of AMD you have been diagnosed with, if you notice a sudden change in vision you should get in touch with your hospital as soon as possible.
